"Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know the dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed."
- G.K. Chesterton

Hey everyone! Welcome to Monday. I hope you are all still healthy and finding much to be thankful for as we continue through our time of staying home and staying socially distant. I took a break from posting because it takes a lot of time and my brain was exhausted after the first week of teaching students by distance. I'm now feeling rested and my creative brain is back! Hope you find some fun ideas in here! Thanks for checking out my post.

Peanut Butter, Toast, Spread, Breakfast, Jam, Sandwich

Activity #1 - Make Breakfast - Peanut Butter and Banana Toast

This is super easy and delicious. I've linked a recipe below if you want one, but you probably won't need it.

Toast a piece of bread, add some peanut butter, slice a banana and arrange the pieces on top, and enjoy! Sometimes I like to sprinkle some chia seed mix on top of the bananas for extra nutrition.

Still, Items, Things, Book, Notebook, Journal, Excerpt

Activity #2 - Journaling - What is loneliness and what to do about it

Open your journal to the next fresh page. Write the title "Loneliness" on the top of the page. Watch this video and spend some time responding to the questions after. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3Xv_g3g-mA&list=PLFs4vir_WsTzcfD7ZE8uO3yX-GCKUk9xZ&index=5&t=0s

Everyone feels lonely at some point in their life. Right now, there are probably a lot more people feeling lonely because we are isolating ourselves to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Respond to the questions below:

1. Do you feel lonely while you are in isolation with your family?
2. Who are some other people that you think might be lonely right now?
3. How could you help yourself feel less lonely? Make a plan and make changes today!
4. How could you reach out to others who may feel lonely as well? What can you do to help? Make a plan and do something to care for someone else today!

*Remember that your plan needs to involve staying socially distant. :-)

People, Woman, Yoga, Meditation, Fitness, Health

Activity #3 - Yoga

Deep breathing and stretching is a great way to begin your day. It would be good to do between 20-30 minutes. Choose a YouTube channel below and enjoy!

Narrative, History, Dream, Tell, Fairy Tales, Book

Activity #4 - Reading

Find the next blank page in your home learning notebook and write the title "Similes and Metaphors" on the top of the page.

Head over to YouTube to watch this fantastic video on Similes and Metaphors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoSBVNUO2LU

Once you've finished the video, write out definitions of similes and metaphors in your notebook. Add at least two examples for each below the definitions.

Now grab your novel and read for half an hour. Watch for similes and metaphors as you read!

Easter Eggs, Egg, Easter, Easter Tree, Easter Bush

Activity #5 - Make an Easter Egg Tree

Easter is this weekend so why not make some pretty decorations for your house? Use what you have in your house so you don't need to go shopping. Here are some videos to give you inspiration. Your finished trees don't need to look exactly like these, be creative nad use what you have. Happy crafting!

Quesadilla, Tortilla, Food, Cheese, Mexican, Cuisine

Activity #6 - Make Lunch - Quesadillas!

Quesadillas are delicious and easy to make. Here is a recipe you could try out at home. Make sure you have parent permission (and possibly help!) to use the stove! Maybe serve them with a side of raw veggies.

Remember to clean up after yourself!

Basketball, Ball, Game, Recreation, Sport, Orange

Activity #7 - Play Catch

Head outside with a sibling and your favourite piece of sports equipment. Play catch for 15 - 20 minutes.

Here are some options:
- Basketball (If you have your own net, you could play a game of 21! Google the rules if you've never played)
- Soccer ball
- Volleyball
- Baseball
- Frisbee

Have fun!

Workout, Ball, Pilates, Fitness, Gym, Training, Fit

Activity #8 - HIIT Circuit

Find some music that pumps you up and put on your best workout clothes. Here is a HIIT circuit you can try out. Sore muscles are so good for us!

Writing, Writer, Notes, Pen, Notebook, Book, Girl

Activity #9 - Writing

Today you get to learn about paragraphs! Head over to this link and watch to see how paragraphs help us better organize and understand writing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hsPNjEMOJ0

Now it is your turn to practice! Get out your home learning journal and spend 20 minutes writing about the prompt below. Remember to start a new paragraph when you change what you are writing about!

Prompt: I went over to say hello to the cute baby under the umbrella, but when I reached her, I saw that...

When you're finished, re-read what you've written and make sure each paragraph is about one topic. Call up a family member and share your story with them! Remember to reach out to others to help them feel loved and help you feel like you are part of community.

Easter, Easter Bunny, Egg, Easter Eggs, Happy Easter

Activity #10 - Colour Easter Eggs

Check with your parents to see if they are okay with you doing this. Below are some videos to help you learn different parts of the egg colouring process.

Have fun and remember to clean up after yourself!

Pumpkin Soup, Soup, Hokkaido Soup, Potato Soup

Activity #11 - Help Cook Dinner!

We are trying to make use of all the preserved food in our freezer. At the end of last summer, I roasted all of our pumpkins, purred, and froze them to make loaves and soups over the winter. Tonight we will be having Slow Cooker Thai Pumpkin Soup. Here is the recipe I use: https://bake-eat-repeat.com/slow-cooker-thai-pumpkin-soup-recipe/

Perhaps try making some crusty bread to go along with your soup. We currently have no yeast, so instead we had these amazing ham, cheese, and chive scones: https://damndelicious.net/2015/09/09/ham-and-cheese-scones/ It is such a good recipe!

Bicycles, Bike, Family Outing, Bike Ride, Cycle

Activity #12 - Go for a Bike Ride

After you've helped do the dishes and put away the dinner, head out with your family for some fresh air and exercise. Enjoy a bike ride around your neighbourhood! When you get back, maybe have some hot chocolate and play your favourite game together.

Hope you found some fun ideas for your day!

Cheers!

Angela
