"In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich."
- Dietrich Bonhoeffer

"As long as this exists, this sunshine and this cloudless sky, and as long as I can enjoy it, how can I be sad?"
- Anne Frank

"So much has been given to me, I have no time to ponder over that which has been denied."
- Helen Keller

Good morning! It is socially distant Saturday and a beautiful day outside. Hope you find some fun ideas for your day in this post.

Food, Breakfast, Table, Healthy, Green, Milk, Honey

Activity #1 - Family Breakfast!

Take a vote on breakfast options and spend time cooking together. Perhaps today is a good day for pancakes, fruit and bacon! Or scrambled eggs and toast. Perhaps yogurt parfait and banana bread. Whatever you decide, enjoy cooking and eating together.

Family, Parents, Mother, Father, Toddler, Life, Evening

Activity #2 - Family Walk or Bike Ride

Start your day with some fresh air and exercise. Remember to keep socially distant, (2 meters) from everyone you see. It is a very good idea to avoid playgrounds to help keep all our germs to ourselves. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds when you get home!
Gratitude, Grateful, Prayer, Thanks, Blessings, Open

Activity #3 - Gratitude Journal

Get out a journal and spend 10 - 15 minutes reflecting on yesterday and the morning so far. If adults don't have a journal, they could open a note in their phone. It is helpful to actually write down what you are thankful for. Once you have finished, share your thoughts with each other. This activity is really good for our mental health. :-)

Gardening, Pots, Soil, Scoop, Trowel, Dig, Grow

Activity #4 - Gardening

Spend some time weeding out your garden to prepare for spring.

Have a garden layout design competition in your family. Each member sketches the garden that they want to plant in the spring and decide together which ideas you want to incorporate into your garden. Everyone can choose flower types, colours, and location to put them. You could even plan to add a veggie patch. It is so fun to grow your own food and then harvest and cook it.

Once everyone has designed their own garden, make a final plan that incorporates all your ideas.

Chef, Character, Cook, Gourmet, Restaurant, Person

Activity #5 - Lunch - Tuna Melts!

Tuna melts are a delicious and easy lunch to make together. In case you have never made one before, here is a highly rated recipe. I might try this one in place of my normal recipe today and see how it tastes. https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/a26146096/tuna-melt-recipe/

Remember that everyone needs to help with preparation and clean up.

Book, Old, Clouds, Tree, Birds, Bank, Rush, Landscape

Activity #6 - Reading

Grab your novel and relax on the grass outside, in a lawn chair, or wherever else is comfortable for you. Maybe have some herbal tea as you read. Enjoy reading for fun for as long as you like.

Wash A Car, The Car, Blue, The Business, Vehicle, Clean

Activity #7 - Wash the Car

This is a useful life task to teach kids. Parents could get out the supplies, give some instructions, then pull up a lawn chair and supervise the cleaning. :-) After the car is clean you could celebrate their efforts with some ice cream or home made cookies.

Glop, Goo, Goop, Grunge, Gunk, Ink, Paint, Slime, Splat

Activity #8 - Make Slime

There are lots of recipes on the internet that use a variety of ingredients. You could look around with your young one to see which recipe you can make with the ingredients you have. Here is one that I found quickly that doesn't use borax.

Crayons, Coloring Book, Coloring, Book, Colors

Activity #9 - Colouring while Audiobooking

Pull out your pencil crayons and a colouring book. If you want, download an audiobook from your local library to listen to as you colour.

Food, Restaurant, Menu, Asia, Dinner, Table, Deli

Activity #10 - Make Dinner

It is so good for kids to learn how to cook! Whatever you make, involve them somehow. Our menu plan for tonight isn't that exciting. We are going to have leafy green salad with lemon and parsley fish. Maybe that will inspire you. Happy cooking, eating, and cleaning together!

Popcorn, Movies, Cinema, Entertainment, Food, Corn

Activity #11 - Movie Night!

Make some popcorn and find something exciting to stream. Enjoy all the extra time you get to spend together as a family without rushing from one place to the next.

Hope this gave you all some fun ideas! Have a fantastic and healthy day!
