Pandemic Home Learning - Day 6

Spring Awakening, Spring, Frühlingsanfang, Flowers

"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror, I can take the next thing that comes along.'"
- Eleanor Roosevelt

Welcome to day six of the home learning blog. I hope you all have a wonderful and healthy day at home working and learning with your families.

Activity #1 - Breakfast

Head to the fridge and find the delicious overnight oats you prepared last night. Eat them cold or heat them up in the microwave and enjoy!

Cat, Tired, Yawn, Stretch, Domestic Cat, Pet, Brown Red

Activity #2 - Yoga

Here is a different YouTube yoga session to try out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=38&v=4ZpkRAcgws4&feature=emb_logo

If that is too easy and slow for you, find a session from Down Dog. Choose to do 20 to 30 minutes of  yoga. Here is the link to their YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl0AUXMurZXQBA9tY6YMaWA

Personally, I prefer to use the Down Dog app and mirror it to my Apple TV. But do whatever works best for you.

Planner, Journal, Notebook, Organizer, Organization

Activity #3 - Journaling

Write today's date at the top of your home learning journal. Spend five to ten minutes listing everything you are thankful for right now. Hopefully this is a huge list. Even though school is cancelled and we can't spend our days with our friends, we have so much to be grateful for!

Once you've spent some time journaling, watch this TED talk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAQfzHBpRsc

After viewing, write the title of the TED talk in your journal below your list of things you're thankful for. Answer these questions.
1. What is the most important lesson you learned from this TED talk?
2. What are three things you can do today to help make a positive impact on the lives around you?

Tea Time, Poetry, Coffee, Reading, Leisure, Table, Cup

Activity #4 - Reading

Today is reading for fun day! There are no videos to watch, no activities to complete, just fun reading to do. Grab a novel and your favourite drink, find a comfy spot, and read for a minumum of 30 minutes.

Piza, Food, Cheese, Plate, Lunch, Hungry, Vegetables

Activity #5 - Prepare Lunch - start it early!

Your parents are likely working very hard to look after you, make sure you are learning, and continue working from home. They might also be trying to help pick up groceries for older family members or friends of theirs who are health care workers and need extra support right now. You could help your parents out so much if you learn how to make nutritious lunches for you and your siblings.

Why not try preparing pizza for the whole family? Ask to see what ingredients you can use that you currently have in the house. If you don't have pizza shells and aren't able to make your own, then make pizzas on pieces of toast bread, naan bread or pitas.

Check out this awesome website with pizza making video and recipe for kids. https://www.americastestkitchen.com/kids/recipes/sheet-pan-pizza

While your pizza dough is rising, you can move on to the next activity.

Blackboard, School, Chalkboard, Math, Addition

Activity #6 - Math

Now that you are all set up on IXL, log on and spend 30 minutes learning and practicing a new concept.

Don't forget to keep an eye on the amazing pizza lunch you are cooking! Also, when you eventually finish making and eating lunch, remember to do the dishes and clean up after yourself.

Tight Rope, Balance, Rope, Person, Risk, Danger, Walk

Activity #7 - Slack Line

This activity is really hard at first and so good for building balance, flexibility and strength. Simply buy yourself a slack line kit and find two strong trees in your backyard or nearby wooded area to set it up. Below is a YouTube video with some tips on how to get started.

*Warning: When people see a slack line, sometimes they get very curious and like to wander over and take a look at it. During a pandemic, this would not be excellent. Make sure you find a place that is out of the way where others will not see you and be interested in visiting. If you do go to a park, make sure you speak up if people are not keeping their social distance.

Salt, Nature, Eat, Food, Spice

Activity #8 - Salt Art

Use this amazing post and create some art using salt, glue, and watercolour paints. There is a list of materials and step by step instructions inside.

Happy creating! Make sure you share a picture of your design with family and friends.

Laptop, Human Hands, Keyboard, Typing, Working

Activity #9 - Typing Practice

Head online to typing.com, log in (since you already did this last time), and practice typing for 15 minutes.

Spaghetti, Meatballs, Pasta, Lunch, Italian Food

Activity #10 - Help with Dinner

Cooking takes a lot of effort and time, hey? It is so great that you have time to help your parents with this chore and learn at the same time! Tonight we are having stuffed pasta with tomato sauce and meatballs. Thank you Costco for making our dinner easy.

Make sure you find out what you can do to help in preparation and clean up.

Children, Kids, Walking, Strolling, Path, Best Friends

Activity #11 - Family Walk

Go outside and have a socially distant walk with your family around your neighbourhood. Say hello to people while you stay on the opposite side of the street from them.

Hope you enjoyed these ideas!
